Overview
The Clerk’s Office is responsible for maintaining official court records. Staff will:
- Provide you with court approved forms and instructions without advising any specific course of action
- Information on case status, unless the case is sequestered (not available for public inspection)
- Copying, duplication, and certification services
- Provide information about court schedules
- Provide general information about court procedures and policies
- Provide general information about community resources
- Assistance with research and case lookup
- Schedule interpreter services
The Clerk’s Office Staff Will Not:
- Give any legal advice
- Endorse specific lawyers or contact them for you
- Advise whether to file a case
- Advise whether to take any action
- Advise what to say in court
- Create documents or fill in forms for you
- Explain court orders, rules, or statutes
- Assist or participate in ex parte communications with the judge
- Predict the outcome of a case filed in court or tell you what you should do
Copies and Certifications
You must complete a Request for Tapes/Copies form and submit it to the Clerk’s office to request copies of court documents or tapes. You can submit the form in person, by mail, or by facsimile 575-434-8886. Requests generally are processed within 24 hours, but may take longer if extensive research is required. The Court requires that fees be paid prior to completing your service request. The Clerk’s staff will contact you regarding fees and advise you of the total cost. You can pick up your order in person or have it mailed to you. For mail delivery, send payment in the form of a money order or cashier’s check, and include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Bonds
Cash bonds are payable at the Clerk’s Office. Cash bonds may be returned to the individual who posted the bond after the defendant has appeared at all required hearings.
